This onsite Materials / Metallurgical Engineer role in Monroeville, PA provides a salary range of USD 66,800 to 126,280 per year.
Responsibilities
- Clarify project needs, monitor progress toward milestones and performance targets, and deliver periodic status updates to leadership and the design team.
- Support the creation of material and process instructions, standards, manuals, and specifications, contributing to material development programs and ensuring proper follow-through and reporting.
- Assist with oversight of supplier manufacturing processes and fabrication procedures from a materials engineering perspective.
- Conduct failure analyses on metal components to identify root causes, propose improvements, and develop solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers across related technical phases to ensure integrated plans and activities.
- Prepare revisions to technical manuals, reports, or procedures in alignment with NR Program quality standards.
- Perform production reviews and quality surveillance; review and approve supplier designs and supporting technical reports for assigned components and equipment; develop methods to improve supplier performance.
- Contribute to design for affordability reviews and prepare cost estimates; analyze supplier designs for material suitability, reliability, and integrity.
- Draft correspondence to the Government providing technical information, recommending approvals of technical actions, or obtaining funding approvals.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Stay current with advancements in metallurgy and materials science, and apply knowledge of advanced analytical tools and equipment as needed.

Requirements
- B.S. in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering, or a B.S. in another engineering discipline with an M.S. in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Security clearance is required; all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
