Job Description

The onsite Senior Staff Software Engineer role focuses on high performance computing research and direct user support for a government-funded program in Colorado Springs. The position combines advanced HPC development with mentorship, training delivery, and collaboration across a specialized team to meet mission requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with HPC users to shorten time to science by enabling faster results through porting, optimization, and parallelization of codes to meet user requirements.
  • Provide mentorship to junior members of the Technical User Support (TUS) and broader HPC teams, including technical guidance, code review sessions, and career development advice.
  • Design and deliver training workshops, tutorials, and documentation to help end users and internal staff adopt HPC tools, adhere to best‑practice coding standards, and apply performance tuning techniques.
  • Engage on-site with a government customer focused on workflow, modeling and simulation, and data needs, collaborating with the program Chief Scientist and TUS team lead to design and implement solutions.
  • Participate in system performance analysis through benchmarking and library tuning, with emphasis on scientific modeling and numerical processes.
  • Investigate, analyze, and make recommendations regarding user codes and other HPC software issues.
  • Apply best practices to maximize utilization of the program’s HPC resources, research storage systems, and secure computing environment.
  • Assist users in adopting a production shared resource, its scheduling system, and high performance data storage systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
  • Approximately 5 years of experience developing and using modeling and simulation software in heterogeneous, multi‑platform environments.
  • Experience aligning HPC user workflows for modeling/simulation problems and GUIs.
  • Knowledge of High Performance Computing environments and related technologies.
  • Proficiency in Fortran, C, and/or C++.
  • Proficiency with Bash and Korn shell environments.
  • Strong Linux operating system skills with the ability to resolve end‑user computer system issues independently in a lab setting.
  • Experience with modern software practices such as coding standards, unit testing, and configuration management.
  • Ability to analyze, debug, and maintain the integrity of an existing code base.
  • Experience designing and delivering training workshops, tutorials, or onboarding materials for HPC users and internal staff.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance with a CI Polygraph to start.

Onsite Full-time: The work is performed at a Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedule

Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Lockheed Martin offers various alternate schedules for flexibility, including condensed work weeks where applicable.

Salary

The annual base salary range is USD 134,000 to 236,325, with location-based adjustments. The range applies to specified states; final figures depend on the candidate’s work location. Salary information is provided as a general guideline.
