Principal Systems Engineer, Platform Systems Engineering
Job Description
Based onsite in Greenville, Texas, the Principal Systems Engineer, Platform Systems Engineering leads end-to-end systems engineering execution across a defined platform, baseline, or program. This role directs all technical activities, governs requirements management and system integration, ensures performance and lifecycle execution, and translates architectural strategy into actionable technical plans from concept through deployment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operational execution of platform-level Systems Engineering across the assigned platform, baseline, or program, including management of platform requirements and SE process standards.
- Direct technical integration across all subsystems, capabilities, and disciplines.
- Resolve complex technical issues and make final trade-off decisions for the platform.
- Establish and maintain technical direction, engineering standards, and design principles.
- Lead technical planning, design reviews, integration, and technical decision-making, while supervising system-level requirements management, validation, and verification.
- Evaluate requirements definition, flow-down and traceability, and maintain risk assessment with mitigation strategies.
- Manage technical risk and drive successful system integration.
- Prepare and present technical results for internal and external program meetings.
- Generate platform system architecture documents and technical roadmaps; produce technical decision records and trade studies.
- Document and support design verification tests within lab, ground, and flight test environments; analyze data from verification efforts.
- Conduct platform-wide technical and milestone reviews and collaborate closely with Project Engineering and Program Management.
- Develop customer technical communications and recommendations, acting as the technical interface for customers and leadership, including coordination with subcontractors and US Government customers.
- Communicate within and beyond the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes, and approaches.
- Mentor and develop technical leaders and support training and development of new team members.
- Manage engineering staffing during travel to offsite facilities for integration and installations.
- Drive SE process improvement and technical excellence across the platform.
- Provide input into new products and processes and implement operational plans with measurable business impact.
- This position includes an expectation of 10 to 15% shift, on-call, or weekend work.
- Maintain an active Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret with SCI designation.
- Current Security+ Certification is required.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with nine to twelve years of experience leading projects and/or task teams in the integration of systems and/or subsystems in airborne and/or lab environments.
- Graduate degree with seven to ten years of experience leading projects and/or task teams in the integration of systems and/or subsystems in airborne and/or lab environments.
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of sixteen years of experience leading projects and/or task teams in the integration of systems and/or subsystems in airborne and/or lab environments.
- Demonstrated progressive experience with testing, integrating, and verifying software and/or hardware.
- Demonstrated progressive experience as a technical, functional, program or project systems engineering leader.
- Demonstrated experience with Flight Control Systems, Communication & Navigation Systems, Mission Systems, or Electronic Warfare Systems.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI designation.
- Coursework and/or experience in systems engineering, systems architecture, systems analysis and design, system performance modeling, integration and/or project management, and/or model-based systems engineering.
- CompTIA Security+ Certification.
