Professional Engineer - Public Works - Traffic Engineering
Job Description
The City of Springfield, Missouri is seeking a Professional Engineer focused on traffic engineering within its Public Works division. This onsite role centers on planning studies, project design and management for traffic-related improvements, and review of development plans for code compliance and access management. Depending on qualifications, there are underfill pathways to Engineer III, II, or I.

Responsibilities
- Develop and analyze planning studies including traffic impact analyses, traffic volume and speed assessments, safety and crash data reviews, and parking evaluations.
- Design and manage projects for traffic calming, sidewalks, and intersection improvements.
- Review development plans to ensure code compliance and proper access management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline.
- Four years of engineering experience.
- Engineering experience must be commensurate with the assigned specialty area required for the current vacancy.
- Underfill options:
- Engineer III underfill – Three years progressively responsible engineering experience; or an Engineering Intern (EI) certificate within the probationary period; or a Master’s Degree substituting for the EI certification.
- Engineer II underfill – Two years progressively responsible engineering experience; or a Master’s Degree substituting for one year of the required work experience.
- Engineer I underfill – Requires a Professional Engineer license (see licensing notes) and MO license within six months of employment.
- Licensing/Certification:
- Must possess a Professional Engineer's license for the Engineer I underfill option.
- Must possess a Missouri (MO) license issued by the Missouri State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers within six months of employment (Engineer I underfill option).
