Job Description

In Ankeny, Iowa, McClure is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead a spectrum of transportation projects from an onsite office. This role acts as the technical and design leader, guiding complex traffic engineering work, mentoring colleagues, and engaging with clients and industry stakeholders to achieve reliable, compliant outcomes. The position emphasizes building team capabilities while delivering high-quality deliverables on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Attend monthly leadership reviews to assess team progress, address concerns, and recognize successes.
  • Provide timely updates to leadership as project or team needs evolve.
  • Frequent coordination and communication with Project Managers and Engineers.
  • Participate in project-specific design reviews and milestone meetings.
  • Lead the project delivery team by assigning technical and design tasks and coaching team members.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes for projects and recommend organization-wide improvements as needed.
  • Perform QA/QC on reports, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to identify milestones and dependencies.
  • Independently manage design team schedules, budgets, and staffing while coordinating with the Project Manager.
  • Implement team-specific project delivery methods, such as work breakdown structures.
  • Coordinate with outside disciplines to support multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Document, review, and implement lessons learned with Project Managers.
  • Assess and address technical skill gaps within the team.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to team members.
  • Research and assess feasibility of new industry developments and advancements.
  • Represent McClure publicly on projects, initiatives, or innovations when required.
  • Organize internal and external training opportunities for the team.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and professionals on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Participate in client meetings such as kickoff, design reviews, construction progress, or project-specific technical meetings as required.
  • Proactively communicate complex issues and solutions to stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients across engagements.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineering license (Required)
  • 5+ years of engineering experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or a related field
  • Ability to commute to Ankeny, IA 50023 (Required)
