Beaverton, Oregon, onsite Outside Plant Engineer opportunity with Ziply Fiber.
Responsibilities
- Lead local engineering design for all outside plant projects within the serving area.
- Design and provide engineering support for ZFB Build initiatives.
- Proactively assess existing outside plant facilities to identify upgrade needs and enhancements.
- Coordinate with utility providers to incorporate joint trench solutions in project designs.
- Participate in preconstruction meetings for project designs.
- Act as the frontline project manager for construction activities related to outside plant work.
- Engage with state, county, city, and national indices to gather information on planned growth and changes.
- Collaborate with peers and cross-functional teams to ensure thorough project planning.
- Prepare and secure required permits at state, DNR, city, county, and township levels.
- Maintain and review rights-of-way and easements for releases.
- Respond to DOR inquiries as needed.
- Maintain accurate cable records and update them to reflect As-Builts.
- Develop cost estimates for build-to-date projects.
- Assist with annual budget design and related planning.
- Support sales, marketing, operations, and regulatory functions as needed.
- Perform other duties to support the business and evolving organization.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of experience in an outside plant role.
- Outside plant construction project management experience and inventory management experience.
- Experience with ROW, private easements, and permitting with local, state, and federal entities.
- Working knowledge of outside plant design, including cable counts, layouts, and capacity planning.
- Experience applying for permits with state, DNR, city, county, and township authorities.
- Valid State Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record; must be willing to complete a pre-employment drug screen.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- Six months or more of sales and/or customer service experience, or current or prior military service.
- Minimum three years of outside plant experience in a related role.

Job Summary
The Outside Plant Engineer manages application engineering for telecommunications outside plant within a local serving exchange. This role acts as the subject matter expert for outside plant facilities, including cable sizing, counts, records, and permitting for rights-of-way and easements. Collaboration with Network Planning, Central Office, Transmission, and Operations supports growth and upgrades.
