Job Description

A Structural Design Engineer is sought to support Department of Energy projects in Greenville, SC, delivering intermediate-complexity design, analysis, and cross-discipline coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze problems and propose independent technical solutions under the direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer.
  • Develop and review project specifications and design criteria.
  • Perform and verify engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment, and systems; address intermediate-complexity technical challenges.
  • Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients.
  • Execute work in accordance with the Project Quality Plan and established procedures.
  • Work within the approved project scope, cost baselines, and schedule baselines.
  • Establish, control, and report material quantities; provide analyses and forecasts.
  • Support equipment and material procurement and subcontracting activities, including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittals.
  • Provide technical support for construction administration, including responses to requests-for-information and field changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes, including DOE orders.
  • Experience delivering EPC services on large industrial projects.
  • 3D modeling and 2D CADD experience.
  • Proficiency in hand and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures.
  • Knowledge of STAAD and RISA3D.
  • Knowledge of Mathcad.
  • Experience with analyzing complex structures; wind and seismic loading; dynamic analysis and design; computer modeling; blast design.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for federal contract security reasons.
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Health and safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing are required.

  • Practical field experience
  • NQA-1 experience
  • EPC project experience for DOE or another U.S. Federal Government Agency
  • Experience with nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program
  • Experience in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology sectors
  • Proficiency with STAADPro and Mathcad
