Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Domtar’s Dayton, Ohio operation seeks an Electrical Engineer to oversee process control and electrical design, delivering technical support for projects and plant operating units while managing capital and expense initiatives. The role collaborates closely with Plant Operations and Maintenance to move initiatives from concept to completion, ensuring electrical systems are reliable, safe, and optimized for continuous improvement across the site.
Responsibilities
- Deliver and report on projects, including product upgrades, cost-saving initiatives, and process improvements that affect manufacturing, while meeting schedule and budget.
- Collaborate with Plant Operations and Maintenance to provide detailed project cost estimates, budgets, and equipment installation designs.
- Organize resources and lead contractors, maintenance personnel, inspectors, and regulators to implement projects.
- Analyze equipment, power systems, and control systems, providing engineering solutions to correct issues and enhance processes.
- Support Mill Operations and Maintenance teams during upset conditions and outages.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
- Develop or oversee control system strategies, instrumentation, hardware selections, and electrical power system designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Investigate and troubleshoot recurring electrical system problems, provide engineering solutions, and oversee corrective actions.
- Coordinate and supervise electrical installations and modifications to meet project performance objectives, including cost, schedule, and safety requirements.
- Procure electrical equipment for projects.
- Manage and coordinate outside contractors and vendors, serving as the company representative for these engagements.
- Perform SAP roles mapped and delegated to the Electrical Engineer.
- Develop project scope and cost estimates, and prepare appropriation requests.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
- 5+ years of project experience.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Strong technical capabilities and time-management skills.
- Solid knowledge of electrical and instrumentation engineering with experience in project design and implementation practices.
- A proven desire to execute capital projects and improve control systems within an industrial setting.
- Strong working knowledge of personal computer systems and related software, or the ability to advance understanding of CAD, DCS, and PLC controllers and software is essential.

Preferred professional experience / qualifications
