Senior Tooling Engineer
Job Description
The Senior Tooling Engineer role at GE Appliances oversees the design and implementation of tooling, processes, and Production Readiness (3P) across the value stream, with a focus on ergonomic design, safety, and cross-functional collaboration to enable Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with part design engineers and Die Engineering to develop robust Die Operational Lineups (DOLs) that satisfy both product and operational requirements.
- Lead and coordinate the Production Preparation Process (3P) to design and implement tooling, equipment, and processes across the full value stream.
- Ensure tooling and equipment designs enable appropriately sized equipment, ergonomic workstations, optimized material presentation, standardized work, and single-piece flow.
- Verify that tooling and equipment comply with applicable Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards.
- Apply Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to emphasize operator safety and usability in all designs.
- Collaborate with functional leaders to align tooling and processes with Bill of Process (BoP), Lean Manufacturing, Ergonomic Design, and TPM initiatives.
- Work with factory operations and Lean teams to understand value streams and ensure tooling designs support material flow, workstation layout, model mix, and productivity goals.
- Apply the 9-Step Process for tooling and equipment design, engaging Critical Process leaders to ensure robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
- Develop Manufacturing Control Plans (MCPs) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCIs) in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Influence product designs by incorporating Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) principles early in development.
- Share technical expertise and lessons learned to strengthen the metal stamping and AME knowledge base and drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline
- Five or more years of experience in tooling procurement and sheet metal die design concepts, die components and applications
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (ProE, SolidWorks, Creo or equivalent) is required
Technologies

Working Environment
The role combines both office and manufacturing environments.
Hours and weekends: Off-shift work and weekend coverage will be required.
Travel
Travel may be required up to 20 percent during peak project periods for domestic and international travel to supplier sites and plants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of simulation software such as Auto Form or equivalent and relevant input parameters
- Experience implementing Lean process improvements in a manufacturing operation
- Prior NPI program experience
