Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive data studies on field failures and correlations with upstream cell manufacturing processes; develop test models to ensure accurate detection and appropriate outlier rejection for field rejects.
- Identify trends from field return data and quantify reliability risks for diagnostics of key signals and metrics, including potential deviations from cell or firmware specifications.
- Analyze Field Reliability and Quality data for cell-related failures and failure modes to forecast expected failure rates and affected populations; verify effectiveness of corrective actions at Tesla and with suppliers.
- Build scalable, reliable pipelines to deploy, test, and monitor performance metrics of models in a production environment.
- Produce clear data visualizations, author technical presentations, and summarize high-impact findings into strategic insights for engineering and leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience with multiple data architectures (MySQL, Microsoft SQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Hadoop, HBase, Spark)
- Knowledge of ETL orchestration tools such as Airflow
- Experience with data visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI
- Proficiency in Python for time-series analysis and applied statistics (inference, anomaly detection, etc.)
- Experience with model training frameworks and modern machine learning concepts, including production-ready workflows
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to translate complex data solutions into business impact
- Strong follow-through and organizational discipline, able to manage multiple projects and drive them to resolution

What to Expect
The Cell Quality team is a small group within R&D responsible for incoming, production, and field reliability aspects of Li-ion cell programs across all Tesla platforms, including Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, Semi, and Energy products. The role focuses on daily fleet diagnostics and analytics, along with process-improvement recommendations derived from fleet data and known field returns. The candidate will lead or support quality-focused initiatives tied to fleet performance.
Expected Compensation
USD 120,000 - 180,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards, and benefits. Pay offered may vary based on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience; total compensation may include additional elements dependent on the offered position.
